Email-Based Newsletter Marketing
Creating an email-based newsletter let's you stay in touch with your customers. You can use your newsletter to give advance notice of upcoming specials or to announce new products and services. Email-based newsletters are inexpensive compared to traditional direct mail initiatives.
Some things to consider when creating an email campaign:
- don't buy mailing lists – build your own list from your web site visitors, at tradeshows or conferences, in-store and referrals;
- offer an easy way for your subscribers to automatically unsubscribe if they wish to do so;
- allow your subscribers to decide if they wish to receive plain text or HTML-based emails;
- personalize your newsletter with the recipients's name;
- offer a sale or other time-sensitive incentives to encourage your subscribers to take action quickly;
- ensure your content provides just enough information to entice your readers to visit your web site for more information; and
- track your progress (ROI – return on investment).
For several years, I have been assisting clients in creating their email-based newsletters. The web host I use offers mailing list software to send out text-based emails. This has been an effective solution for some of my clients.
To create HTML-based email newsletter campaigns, I use Constant Contact. This system allows for customized email newsletters in both HTML and plain text formats to be sent to an opt-in mailing list and tracks email opens, bounces, and click-throughs.
