Web Development and Design Portfolio
Climate Change (Government of Canada)
Since November 2003, I have worked on contract for Natural Resources Canada, the lead department responsible for the Government of Canada's bilingual Climate Change web site. I am still doing contract work for Natural Resources Canada, but am no longer responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the Climate Change web site.
I undertook the redevelopment of the web site based on a pre-approved design. The new site was hand-coded in ASP and CSS to meet the Government of Canada's Common Look and Feel guidelines, departmental standards (where applicable), W3C standards, and web accessibility and usability best practices.
Initially at the client's request, the site was created using ASP, server-side includes (SSI) and Macromedia DreamWeaver's Template Language to set various page parameters and enable editable regions. However, the Templates have since been removed and the site now makes extensive use of ASP and SSI only.
The old site was originally hosted on a UNIX server, while the new site is deployed on a Windows 2000 server. ISAPI Rewrite is used to redirect old URLs to their new locations.
Other tasks and duties:
- For 1.5 years I was responsible for the day-to-day development and maintenance of the site including various database-driven applications.
- Work with clients on developing, modifying and updating their content and various applications on the site. Suggest recommendations for improvement to their site content and graphical elements, as well as, provide advice on technical issues and database uses and implementation.
