Web Development and Design Portfolio
World University Service of Canada
Since December 2002, I have undertaken several projects for World University Service of Canada (WUSC), a non-profit organization located in Ottawa, Canada.
WUSC Bilingual Web Site
In 2003, I undertook a complete redesign and redevelopment of the WUSC bilingual web site (~700 pages). The site contains a tremendous amount of information and, as such, a significant amount of time was spent on evaluating the old site, determining the needs of site visitors and developing a new navigational/architectural system that would better meet the existing needs and work well into the future.
The new site was hand-coded in ASP, CSS, JavaScript and Dreamweaver MX template code, for use with Contribute which allows non-developers to easily update the site.
Additionally, I researched and evaluated various options to implement a site-wide search engine and a multi-user forum. Atomz search engine and WebWhiz forums were installed and configured with the same common look and feel used throughout the site. I also developed customized PhotoShop templates allowing staff to create photo galleries quickly and easily.
I trained staff to update the site using Dreamweaver MX, Contribute and CSS. I also wrote comprehensive procedures, guidelines and site documentation.
Technologies used: HTML, CSS, ASP, SSI, MS Access, SQL Server, JavaScript, WebWhiz Forums, Atomz search engine, Dreamweaver MX Template Language
The web site is maintained by staff in-house; however, I occasionally provide assistance as-needed. Visit the web site, or view screen shots of the site. A compilation of screen shots of the previous site are also available.

On-Line Application Forms
In December 2002, I was retained by WUSC to develop bilingual, multi-page, interactive registration forms for use by international development workers in submitting resumes and identifying specific experience. This application was developed in ASP and submits to an in-house Access database. In 2005, I developed an administration area for this application allowing staff not in-house to review applications submitted for specific jobs.
In 2004 and 2005, I was retained by WUSC to develop a bilingual, multi-page registration and payment processing application for their Annual Assembly. This proved to be a very cost-effective solution for alumni members to register and pay for attendance at the Annual Assembly.
In 2004 and 2005, I developed an application form for use by Canadian universities to apply for sponsorship of a refugee student. This is a bilingual application with more than 15 screens to fill out. I created a customized print-view which gathers all data submitted and allows for printing of the contract between WUSC and the university. I also created the new MS Access database tables for integration with the existing WUSC database.
Screen shots of the various on-line application forms I have developed are available:
- Overseas Volunteer and Consultant Job Application Forms
- 2004 Annual Assembly Registration and Payment Processing Forms

MS Access Database Development
Over the past few years, I have been retained by WUSC to undertake changes to their existing MS Access alumni (contact management) database. This is a very large multi-user database used by staff in-house and also on their web site for data gathering. The database contains approximately 45 tables, 140 inter-linked forms, 100 reports, 200 queries and several macros.
I have met with several departments to determine their needs for improving the database. Extensive work has been done to the database including modifying tables, reports, queries, macros and forms to better meet the identified requirements and improve the speed, security and functionality of the database for all users.
